ANNA JOHNSTONE (YOII)

Yoii aka Anna Johnstone once dreamed of becoming an animator. After an attempt at studying and the discovery it was not her thing after all she dedicated her time to learning to become successful at the thing she loved the most, drawing whatever she feels like. In her personal work Yoii draws her inspiration from an emotional response to the often hypocritical development modern society has on the emotional wellbeing of humanity as well as the impact humanity is having on their own relationship with nature and the environment.

While in some cases remaining ‘cute’ and ‘appealing’ Yoii’s characters often convey a sense of apathy and contempt towards the viewer or their own contextual inner narrative. In recent years, along with painting and illustration, Yoii fell into the world of art toys and now enjoys turning her characters into objects people can covet on their shelves.
